thoughts on my mailbox books so far...

so, i've been reading the books i mentioned in the IN MY MAILBOX post...

Wings by Aprilynne Pike

the verdict? very original. very interesting. it wasn't grip-the-edge-of-your-seat omg-what's-going-to-happen-next thrilling, but on the other hand, i read it in less than a day. i really enjoyed reading it, and i'd recommend it to YA fantasy lovers.

The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan

WOW. just...wow. i never would have pictured myself reading a zombie book of all things, but i can make an exception for Ryan. she has the most original, captivating style of writing--every word feels specially chosen and not a single sentence is wasted. i could never even BEGIN to guess what was going to happen next. all i can say is, the sequel should be interesting!

Dengeki Daisy by Kyousuke Motomi

okay, so what i really spent most of my weekend reading was Dengeki Daisy. in case you can't tell, it's a manga (Japanese comic). they took me a little while to get used to reading (you read right to left, and i've never really read comics before), but they are totally worth it. i loved Dengeki Daisy. (click on the picture for a link to B&N if your curious and want more info)

all in all, a great weekend of reading! i'm currently on Nicholas Sparks' The Lucky One, which I'm enjoying, as well as another manga, Ouran High School Host Club (probably the funniest thing i will ever read in my life).

what did YOU spend your weekend doing/reading??

  1. I really want to read wings. I've done Forest.... which was an absolutely great book. And I never had a thing for Zombies either so it surprised me that I liked it.

This year, I read my first ever comic and I really want to read some more. They take longer but are seriously satisfying.

This weekend.... well I had heat stroke for half of it and the other half i just kept doing stuff with my family.

  5. The cover of "Wings" is so pretty. I may look for that one. I'm not a big fan of zombies.

This weekend, I ate dim sum, I read some Harry Potter, and watched The World Cup.

  6. The Forest of Hands & teeth is in my TBR pile and I can't wait to read it. I haven't read any manga yet - maybe it's time. :-)

My weekend was spent recovering from a camping trip. Laundry...lots of it!

  7. Sandy--yeah, i totally agree! the cover looks kinda funny, but the illustrations in the actual story are better. i can't wait for the next volume!

Theresa--i love Wings' cover, too! That sounds like a nice weekend :) you can't beat HP.

Shannon--haha laundry! my favorite....or not ;) but camping sounds fun!

(if you're looking for a really good manga, Ouran High School Host Club is definitely my favorite!)

  12. I felt the same way about Wings--not heart-pounding (maybe in a few parts), but I devoured it in a day, too. We are so twins.

I've only tried one manga book and I was soooo confused. I might have to give it another go.

  13. HEY, LONG-LOST TWIN!!

yeah, that was me my first time reading manga. i especially have trouble because they don't introduce the characters at all! they just throw them at you and sometimes they all look alike :( . but i'd watched the anime for Ouran HHC, (which is SO hilarious, btw. words do not do it justice.), and it helped me follow the manga. once i got used to reading it, i moved on to Dengeki Daisy!

so maybe the solution is to watch Ouran High School Host Club. mwahahahaha!!!
